The Australian healthcare sector is one of the most active avenues for healthcare professionals looking to make a career abroad as nurses, counsellors, dentists, and physicians.

Countries like India and Nepal are some of the popular destinations for the inflow of nurses to Australia. According to a 2018 article published in Medium.com, Nepal has 1100 educational institutions under 43 universities that offer 22, 000 + courses in different study fields. However, nursing has is one of the most popular courses for overseas students. So, how are these countries contributing to the demand in today’s context in Australia?

How valid is Nepali Education Australia?

Nursing is a popular career choice among young Nepalis. Aspirants begin contacting consultancies soon after they have completed +2 years of their Higher Secondary Education to enrol to Australian universities for Nursing programs. For those who have already done a nursing course in Nepal, they may have to apply to a 4-year Australian graduate program in Nursing or a 2-year Masters in Nursing based on your Nepalese nursing course’s weightage and scope.

For those who have done a BSc Nursing in Nepal, then they may have to apply for a student visa to Australia and enrol to a 1-year Bachelors Top-up course. This allows them to apply to the OBA program and become Registered Nurses in Australia.

You can also choose to join an Australian Masters of Nursing program. You will require IELTS score of 7 in each band, a minimum PTE score of 66 in each band, or a minimum OET score of ‘B’ in each band.

Scope – Career Options

Nepali nurses or aspirants can pursue a career in nursing in Australia either as an Enrolled Nurse (EN) or a Registered Nurse (RN).

As an Enrolled Nurse in Australia, you will have to work under the guidance and supervision of a RN. Your roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Keeping a track of patient’s health information
  • Updating doctors and RNs with changes or improvements in patient
  • Provide pre and post operative care to patients
  • Helping patients with personal hygiene
  • Provide emotional and physical support to families

ENs work in a variety of settings such as general practitioner clinics, hospitals, and aged care services.

As a Registered Nurse in Australia, you will have to work in tandem with doctors and surgeons in hospitals, institutes, and communities.
